Satisfactory Academic Progress
Requirements for maintaining satisfactory academic progress at Calwest University.
Maximum Program Duration
- MBA: Maximum 5 years to complete the program (2 years if substantial RPL credits are applied).
- DBA: Maximum 7 years to complete the program (3 years if substantial RPL credits are applied).
Students do the courses at their own pace. However, the maximum time limit to complete Graduate programmes of 12 courses (e.g., MBA) is 5 years. For Graduate programs where substantial credit has been granted (e.g., MBA for CMAs), the maximum completion time is 2 years.
For Doctoral degree programs (e.g., DBA), the maximum time limit to complete is 7 years. For programs where substantial credit has been granted for the coursework components (e.g., DBA for MBAs), the maximum completion time is 3 years.
Extensions to these time limits need special permission from the Provost, giving specific reasons such as health. Work pressure is not a valid reasonExtensions beyond the maximum duration require written permission from the Provost.
Progress Requirements
Satisfactory academic progress requires the completion of a minimum of 20 credits per year. The minimum passing mark for any assessment is 60% (grade D). Students do the courses at their own pace. For graduate and doctoral students, satisfactory progress towards a degree is defined as the successful completion of 20 credits applicable to
that degree program during an academic year. This should include registration for at least 30 credits per year.
“Successful completion” is defined as the receipt of a passing letter grade (A+ to D). Decisions on student status are made by the Provost.As Calwest has only online programs, a student shall have the right to cancel the agreement and receive a full refund before the first lesson and materials are accessed. After the first lesson is accessed by the student, Calwest will give online access to the balance of the lessons and other materials to the student if he or she (a) has fully paid for the educational program; and (b) after having received the first lesson and course materials, accesses further course materials. If the student accesses the balance of the course material for which he or she has fully paid, Calwest shall remain obligated to provide the other educational services it agreed to provide but shall not be obligated to pay any refund after any of the balance lessons and course material are accessed. Upon withdrawal from a course, fees will be refunded based on Calwest’s Refunds Policy.
